Oleksandr Usyk’s top five wins ranked
Oleksandr Usyk begins his quest for a heavyweight world title tonight against Chazz Witherspoon, a late replacement opponent, after Tyrone Spong failed a drugs test.
Usyk is fighting for the first time at heavyweight after years of dominance at cruiserweight.
The Ukranian is considered to be one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world, having unified the cruiserweight world titles in his first 15 professional fights.
As an amateur, Usyk was a world champion, a european champion, and an Olympic gold medalist, before turning pro and producing a series of incredible wins in quick succession.
But what are Usyk’s five best wins?
5 – Krzysztof Glowacki – Unanimous decision.
Usyk has won all of his world title belts on the road, never fighting for world honours in his native Ukraine. He won his first strap in Poland against Glowacki.
The Pole was unbeaten at the time, and had beaten Marco Huck for the WBO cruiserweight world title a year before.
But Usyk won a wide unanimous decision victory, completely outboxing the champion in his own back yard.

4 – Marco Huck – TKO round ten.
Having retained his WBO belt against American Micael Hunter and South African Thabiso Mchunu, Usyk entered into the inaugural World Boxing Super Series.
Entering as a pre-tournament favourite, Usyk started with a clash against former WBO champ Huck in 2017, travelling to the German’s country to take him on.
After Huck had shoved him during the press conference, Usyk went on to punish the former champion in the ring. The Southpaw danced around the ring, taunting Huck before stopping him in the tenth round to progress to the semi-final of the tournament.

3 – Tony Bellew – KO round eight.
After winning the World Boxing Super Series in incredible style, Usyk held the WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO and The Ring world titles, and was considered to be the lineal heavyweight king.
However, he immediately set his sights on Bellew, who was coming off the back of back-to-back wins at heavyweight over former unified cruiserweight champion David Haye.
At the Manchester Arena, Usyk started slow before taking over the fight and brutalising the former WBC cruiserweight champ, taking his time before landing a devastating knockout in round eight, sending Bellew into retirement.

Oleksandr Usyk beat Murat Gassiev in the World Boxing Super Series final
2 – Murat Gassiev – Unanimous decision.
Usyk took on Gassiev in the World Boxing Super Series final back in 2018, once again travelling to the back yard of an opponent. On this occasion, he took on one of the toughest tests of his career, the WBA and lineal cruiserweight champion.
Fighting in front of a hostile Moscow environment, the Ukranian put on a dazzling display to rip the belts away from the home favourite in style.
Usyk boxed his way to a wonderful unanimous decision win, barely letting Gassiev get a look in throughout, and afterwards the former unbeaten fighter said Usyk was “the best opponent of my professional career”.
Usyk won the Muhammad Ali trophy as well as the WBA, IBF, Ring Magazine and lineal cruiserweight championship.
1 – Mairis Briedis – Mixed decision.
This wasn’t just Usyk’s best win, it was also one of the best fights of 2018, despite it not being his most convincing win.
Against Briedis, he won the WBC cruiserweight title with a mixed decision win, the only time he hasn’t won via either stoppage or unanimous decision, another example of his excellence and dominance over the cruiserweight division.
In Riga, Briedis’ home town, Usyk was made to work for his win, despite using his superior ring craft and movement to get around the squared circle, Briedis was more accurate with his punches, and managed to hurt the Ukranian.
However, Usyk was declared the winner on two of the three scorecards – the other being a draw.
